Equiinet CachePilot
Caching and Content Appliance
CachePilot™ gives ISPs, ASPs and companies undertaking
their own web and Intranet hosting an easy and economical way
to increase the capacity and performance of their servers.
With CachePilot, the speed at which web pages can be viewed
is increased dramatically and connection costs are minimised.
E-businesses gain competitive advantage by offering consumers
web sites where even graphics-intensive pages can be
navigated fluidly and quickly. At end-user sites, employee
productivity is enhanced and network costs reduced. Security
is assured with the use of access controls, multiple
authentication levels and an administrator only configuration
account, while CachePilot’s powerful filtering options
allow huge flexibility in the categories of material that can
be screened.
High Performance at Low
Cost
High-performance caches have been prohibitively expensive in
the past, but the advent of CachePilot has made caching aff o
rdable. CachePilot enables a common web server to be scaled
up to ten times, with the server maintaining over 100,000
permanent connections. This can help reduce costs
substantially as, instead of being forced to deploy
additional web servers, customers have the option of
installing the low-cost CachePilot to boost performance.
Forward Proxy for Fast Web
Access
Time spent waiting for files or Web pages to download can
lead to frustration and low productivity on the job. With
CachePilot acting as a forward proxy, the speed and
efficiency of delivering Internet content to employees within
organisations is dramatically improved. This results in
increased productivity and greater job satisfaction. It also
significantly reduces an organisation’s bandwidth
requirements and network costs.
Reverse Proxy for Accelerated Web
Hosting
With CachePilot acting as a reverse proxy cache, businesses
can ensure that their customers can navigate fluidly and
quickly through their sites, thereby increasing both the time
they stay on their sites and the likelihood that they will
return. In this capacity, CachePilot improves scalability and
performance by off-loading much of the fulfilment burden from
the web server. In addition, CachePilot accelerates the
transmission of data-intensive graphics. This improves
performance and provides capacity for mission-critical
e-commerce applications.
Powerful and Comprehensive
Filtering
CachePilot can be optionally configured with
administrator-specified URL lists, indicating which URLs
should be blocked or forwarded. The use of wildcards and
highly sophisticated third - party, subscription-based
filtering services makes this feature even more robust. The
list, which contains more than 19 million URLs in more than
30 different categories, including pornography, can be
updated daily.
Suitability for All
Environments
CachePilot can be up and running in switch and router
environments such as Windows NT, UNIX or Cisco in around ten
minutes. Its appliance architecture is based on open
standards and will integrate into any network environment.
Transparent caching accelerates browser requests without any
need for user settings to be changed on individual
browsers.
For simple management of IP addresses and a greater degree
of security, CachePilot can act as a router implementing
Network Address Translation (NAT). Also supported is forward
and reverse caching of large FTP files, dynamic NAT and
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) forw a rding, and
the ability to abort, fill and flush cached objects and
information.
Secure Management and Administration
CachePilot’s sophisticated management and monitoring
facilities can be easily administered from anywhere on a
network using standard Internet management interfaces and
protocols. These include browser, FTP, serial connection,
Telnet and SNMP.
For extra security, CachePilot uses address-based
administrator access control, multiple authentication levels
and an administrator-only configuration account. Log-reading
tools can be used to interpret traffic activities, while
topsite traffic reporting makes it possible to learn which
web pages have the greatest impact on bandwidth.
Tandem Operation with NetPilot
For even greater perf o rmance, CachePilot can be used in
tandem with DICA’s NetPilot and NetPilot Enterprise
Internet Access Servers. CachePilot’s caching engine
and NetPilot’s Boundary CachingTM facility interact
using the Internet Caching Protocol (ICP) – a hierarchy
that enables interoperability with third-party devices.
