Equiinet NetPilot Enterprise
Internet Access Server
NetPilot™ Enterprise is a compact, rack-mountable
Internet Server Appliance that provides secure, company-wide
Internet access and email. Ideal for medium-to-large
organisations that require high power and added connectivity,
NetPilot Enterprise is also well suited for applications that
call for higher performance and capacity than provided by the
standard NetPilot. A Checkmark-accredited firewall and an
optional VPN capability offer secure, low-cost connectivity
for branch offices and remote staff. A range of WAN and LAN
options are available, and flexible control and management
facilities are built in. Installation is straightforward with
a multi-language, browser-based management interface and a
Wizard for automated configuration of client PCs. Added
resilience is available through swappable, twin-mirrored disk
drives.
Fast Web Access With Security and Control
Multi-user Internet access is provided through a range of
media including DSL (via Ethernet), dial-on-demand ISDN and
X.21/V.35 leased lines. Network security is assured with a
built-in, pre configured firewall that has won prestigious
Checkmark accreditation Inbound and outbound user access
controls are also provided, including restrictions by
individual, group and time. Web access rights can be tailored
to suit individual needs, and user audit trails are
available. In addition, NetPilot Enterprise can work in
tandem with Equiinet ’s CachePilot™ appliance to
provide even greater levels of filtering and security.
Cost-effective Email
With support for up to 500 mailbox accounts, NetPilot
Enterprise can serve as a company-wide email server for o
rganisations of all sizes. To minimise call charges, email
can be sent and retrieved at pre determined intervals, with
PC users picking up their email messages whenever convenient.
Email can also be redirected or copied to internal or
external addresses.
In addition, NetPilot Enterprise offers a WebMail facility
that allows users to c reate, send and receive emails from a
browser. This is particularly useful for local LAN users who
”hot desk” between diff e rent PCs. NetPilot
Enterprise may also be used as a gateway to other mail
servers, including Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes.
Secure VPN Connectivity for Branch Offices and Remote
Staff
NetPilot Enterprise can be used as the hub of a Virtual
Private Network (VPN) when Equiinet ’s optional VPN
software is installed. Employing standard IPSec protocols and
Triple DES encryption, the VPN capability enables users to
estab-lish secure communications between a central office and
one or more branch locations. Roving staff can dial into
their nearest Point of Presence (POP) using VPN client
software.
Fast Browsing with Equiinet’s
Boundary Caching
Equiinet’s unique Boundary Caching TM capability
speeds up user access and saves on connection costs by
storing popular web content locally on NetPilot Enterprise.
Only content that has changed is downloaded, thus keeping
network traffic to a minimum. For extra caching perf o
rmance, NetPilot Enterprise’s Boundary Caching
capability can be used in conjunction with Equiinet’s
CachePilot appliance.
Web, File and Print Serving
Tools such as MS FrontPage can be used to develop and amend
a secure Intranet site, containing databases and other
important company information , which can be stored on
NetPilot Enter-prise and accessed by authorised users. In
addition, NetPilot Enterprise can act as both print and file
server for local Microsoft Windows clients. FTP, DNS and DHCP
servers are also provided.
Easy Installation and
Management
NetPilot Enterprise is straightforward to install and
manage. All administration is bro w s e r-based, and the
‘Quick Configuration’ utility allows users to set
up the appliance within minutes. A ‘Wizard’
utility automatically configures the network elements on PCs
requiring access. A range of activities can be reported on,
including time online, number of emails by user, web usage by
time of day and firewall rejects. Automatic re p o rts can be
sent to the system supervisor by email, while software
upgrades can be downloaded from the NetPilot support web
site.
