Internet Access Server
NetPilot™ is an all-in-one appliance that provides
company-wide Internet access, email services and much more in
a compact, low-cost package. A state-of-the-art firewall and
optional VPN capability combine to offer unparalleled network
protection. Flexible control facilities prevent misuse of web
browsing and email. Other features include multiple WAN
inter-faces; caching for fast web browsing; integrated print,
file and web servers; and b ro w s e r-based configuration
and administration. Simple to install and use, NetPilot is
the ideal solution for the small-to-medium business.
Web Access for the Whole
Company
NetPilot makes it possible to distribute Internet access and
web services to everyone within an organisation from a single
Wide Area Network (WAN) con-nection. Internet connectivity
can be p rovided through a variety of media, including DSL
(via Ethernet), dial-on-demand ISDN and X.21/V.35 leased
lines. Because NetPilot offers all of these interfaces as
standard equip-ment, users can easily switch between a
variety of WAN services without having to replace or update
the appliance.
Cost-effective and Comprehensive
Email
NetPilot acts as an internal and external email server with
support for up to 150 individual mailbox accounts. To
minimise call charges, external email can be sent and
retrieved at pre determined intervals. Email can also be
redirected or copied to other internal or external
addresses.
Aliasing facilities enable users to set up virtual mail
groups. In addition, NetPilot can function as a gateway to
other mail servers such as Microsoft Exchange or Lotus
Notes.
Web Access With Security and
Control
Network security is assured with a built-in, preconfigured
firewall that has won prestigious Checkmark
accreditation.
Inbound and outbound user access controls are also provided,
including restrictions by individual, group and time. Web
access rights can be tailored to suit individual needs, and
user audit trails are available. NetPilot can also work in
tandem with DICA’s new CachePilot™ appliance to
provide even greater levels of filtering and security.
Secure Connectivity for Branch Offices and Remote
Staff
NetPilot can be used as the hub of a Virtual Private Network
(VPN) when users install DICA’s optional VPN software.
Using standard IPSec protocols and Triple DES encryption, the
VPN capability enables users to establish secure
communications between a central office and one or more
branch locations. Roving staff can dial into their nearest
Point of Presence (POP) using VPN client software.
Fast Browsing with Boundary
Caching
Equiinets ’s unique Boundary Caching™ capability
speeds up user access and saves on connection costs by
storing popular web content locally on NetPilot. Only content
that has changed is downloaded, thus keeping network traffic
to a minimum. NetPilot’s Boundary Caching feature can
be used in conjunction with CachePilot for even greater
caching performance .
Integrated Web, File and Print
Servers
Tools such as MS FrontPage can be used to develop and amend
a secure Intranet site, containing databases and other i m p
o rtant company information, that can be stored on NetPilot
and accessed by authorised users. In addition, NetPilot can
act as both print and file server for local Microsoft Windows
clients. FTP, DNS and DHCP servers are also integrated in the
all-in-one appliance.
Easy Installation and
Management
NetPilot is very straightforward to install and manage. All
administration is browser-based, and the ‘Quick
Con-figuration’ utility enables users to set up the
device within minutes. A ‘Wizard’ utility
automatically configures the network elements on PCs
requiring access. A range of activities can be reported on,
including time online, number of emails by user, web usage by
time of day and firewall rejects. Automatic reports can be
sent to the system supervisor by email, while software
upgrades are easily downloaded f rom the NetPilot support web
site.
