"BRI Long" ISDN BRI Extension over
Copper
The BRI-Long devices are designed to extend ISDN BRI S/T
interfaces or to interconnect LANs or PBXs based on ISDN BRI
dedicated links provided over only one twin wire within
distances of up to 8 km. Thanks to its protocol independence
the Promptus 1300 can be used for BRI S/T extension of any
ISDN network, worldwide. The Promptus 1300 devices are
equipped with a desktop or wall-mountable casing.
The Concept
Two BRI-Long devices are always needed (BRI-Long system)
connected each to other over one twin wire. Each device
provides one 4-wire standard BRI S/T interface, which is
converted into the twin wire Uk0 interface, in fact fully
transparent for data transmission as well as independent of
the D-channel signaling.
By using the 2B1Q line coding with a data rate of 192 kbps on
the copper twin wire (0.6 mm) distances of up to 8 km can
reached safely.
In cases the reachable distances are not long enough, the
Promptus 1350 intermediate repeater can be additional used to
reach more longer distances.
Application
In case of ISDN BRI extension the BRI-Long device on local
PBX site is in LT-mode (TE) and on remote subscriber site
– in NT-mode.
If two PBXs are to be interconnected, then the BRI-Long
device on local Master PBX site is in LT-mode and on remote
Slave PBX site – in NT-mode.
In case a BRI dedicated link is to be provided both BRI-Long
devices on local and remote sites must be operate in NT-mode.
This provided BRI dedicated link can be used for LAN-LAN or
PC-PC connectivity.
The Promptus 1300 is provided with a management software
running under Windows 9x/NT. This allows both local and
remote configuration and control of both Promptus 1300
devices connected each to other over the common twin-wire
link.

Features
The Promptus 1300 BRI-Long is the tailor-made solution for
ISDN BRI S/T extension within private or public
communications infrastructures. The BRI-Long needs only two
wires to extend the BRI provided as 4-wire interface. In case
of using earth cable (0.6 mm, twin wire) the BRI S/T can be
extended up to 12 km.
