Promptus OASIS 500
ISDN PRI Inverse Multiplexer

Although it has other applications, the primary purpose of the OASIS 500 is to manage a customer's fluctuating needs for bandwidth. By complying with the ISO 13871 (BONDING) inverse multiplexing (IMUX) industry standard, the OASIS 500 is able to combine as many 56K or 64K B-channels as are needed to support the customer's bandwidth needs at any given time. Videoconferencing, which normally requires 384 Kbps of bandwidth, is the primary application that takes advantage of the IMUX standard, but it can also be used to support connectivity for bridges, routers, frontend processors, and other devices.

The IMUX technique makes it possible for the OASIS 500 to provide bandwidth ranging from 56 Kbps to 1920 Kbps. The difference from other forms of digital connectivity, such as leased lines, is that this bandwidth is provided only when it is needed, making it one of the most costeffective forms of wide area connectivity available in the world.

Leased-line Back-up and Overflow

The OASIS 500 also supports dedicated circuits and provides secure connectivity to applications on the corporate network. By monitoring the availability of leased lines, the OASIS 500 is capable of providing automated disaster recovery and back-up services if and when the user's dedicated lines fail. This is accomplished by rerouting the traffic over as many B-channels as are needed to maintain the necessary data throughput. User-defined thresholds allow customers to control the network for back up and recovery and ensure data integrity for the application. The OASIS 500 is also capable of adding supplementary bandwidth when leasedline capacity is exceeded. This makes it possible for network managers to purchase dedicated capacity based on normal usage, rather than on the need to occasionally support larger, temporary bursts of data. This can result in significant cost savings.

Built-in T1 Network Interface

The Oasis 500 may be configured with an internal CSU that allows direct connection to a T1 line, thereby eliminating the need for expensive external equipment. The device also supports ESF Facility Data Link (FDL) for real-time error monitoring of the T1 facility.

Sophisticated Call Management

As an added feature, up to 64 unique, predefined call records can be maintained within the OASIS 500. These records allow the operator to automate the many functions of the device, including data rate, called party number, and service type.

Features

The OASIS 500 lets users leverage the power of ISDN PRI services worldwide. With its bandwith-on-demand capabilities, the OASIS 500 is well suited for applications that need occasional high bandwidth, such as videoconferencing, LAN interconnect, and file transfer. Implementing these applications with on-demand services reduces overall transmission costs, since customers pay only for the bandwidth they need, when they need it.
